shot 1: green brown dull little bits of white black, nature/natural colour palette, outside of district 12 makes us feel wild
shot 2: in the capitol white, greys, silver, metals, buildings and old things people are bright and colourful, metallic, industrial/technological feels futuristic, rich/wealthy,
shot 3: the control room, whites and shades of blue, clean, clinical, shows use of tech, makes us think of intelligence, cramped, algorithmic,
colour is used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor. this is demonstrated in the two scenes- District 12 at the start of the film and the Capitol when Katniss and peeta arrives from the train, in District 12 a natural, dull and dark colour palette of greens and browns is used to create a wild atmosphere, in the Capitol a metallic, industrial colour palette of white silvers and greys is used to create a feeling of an advanced society. the purpose of this is to show the rich vs poor in the two societies, the Capitol has more bright colours and advanced buildings and technology, whereas District 12 has dull colours to show they're run down buildings and over worn clothing. combined with the use of costumes we are able to see the divide between the wealthy of the Capitol and the poor of District 12. this reminds the audience of the riot scene later in the film when the poor citizens 11 rebel against the rule of the Capitol.
Hey Joel, I really like how you've worded your post. It's very easy to read, and I love how you explained where the different parts of the palettes appear in the film. What about the color palettes of the characters themselves (hair, eyes, skin tone, etc)? Does that reflect on where they're from too?
