design process

in tech we learnt about our new project, the strategy game called mu torere

we talked about the design process and how even NASA used it during their designing of the first rocket to the moon

the goal of mu torere is to make it so that your opponent cannot move by blocking of their options by moving your sphere into a different place on the board

raising seeds

Aim: To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.

Method:

We worked in groups of 3-4 students
Potting mix was put into the cups.
The cups were planted with radish seeds.
Each cup had a different growing conditions:
Cup 1 - normal
Cup 2 - red cellophane
Cup 3 - over watered
Cup 4 - Under watered or green cellophane

The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured.

Findings:

Plant growing condition
Height after 10 days (mm)
Normal
35
Green cellophane
60
clear cellophane
30
Over water
0
The normal seedling was planted in normal potting mix and grew to a height of _35________mm.
The green cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix, covered in green cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of __60______mm. The clear cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix...and grew.......... to a height of ______30_____mm. The overwatered seddling was planted in normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of ___0___mm.

Conclusion: green cellophane grew the best plant

From the pictures and evidence we can conclude that:

The seedling height was:

1. 60 mm
2.35 mm
3.30 mm
4.0 mm

The best growing conditions were:

1.green celophane
2. normal
3.clear celophane
4. overwatered

therefore the seedling with _____green cellophane________ conditions grew to a height of _____60____mm.

stories from Norway

yesterday in English class the class had to select a letter, then a country starting with that letter, then a traditional story from the country we chose, I chose N, Norway, and the story Thumbikin

the story is about a woman's only son, who was no bigger than her thumb, and when her son called Thumbikin knew right from wrong his mother said he should look for a bride, so they got ready to go to a princess's castle and the mother placed her son in her bosom and started off, soon Thumbikin had hidden from his mother and only came out when his mother was weeping, he did that four times before they got to the castle, where the princess said that he was a good little chap and the wedding soon followed, after the wedding they went to eat, there was a big bowl of porridge which Thumbikin couldn't reach, so he climbed to the rim of the bowl, but spotted a bowl of melted butter to Dunk the porridge in so he climbed to the ridge of that bowl, then the princess tried to Dunk her porridge into the butter and hit Thumbikin into it, where he drowned.

traditional tales

In English we have been learning about traditional stories and tales like little red riding hood, Greek mythology, and the many, many fables written by Aesop.

In class I focused on Norse mythology which has characters such as: Thor Loki Odin and Heimdallr

The main thing I made was a recreation of Yggdrasil: the world tree using modelling clay and black paper.

After that I modelled a snake body and used a toothpick to carve out scales on the top and bottom of the serpent and had a line slit through the the sides of the serpent so I could hold it properly without damaging the scales

I learnt that many things we think of as fairy tales or any other types of story aren't actually what we think they are, for example, some of us think that the ugly duckling is a fairy tale but it isn't
