  1. trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen
  2. provide food
  3. provide tools
  4. provide material

i believe that sustainability is related to science because there is sustainability in biology because you need constant amounts of cells to keep up how you look and feel.

forests are being cut down and most of the time they are not growing fast enough to replace the trees being cut down

people are always endangered

14/9/17 - 15/9/17
lo identify endangered species in NZ explain why they are endangered and create a way to increase the population of the species

  1.  an animal that has under about 40,000 animals of that species
  2. kiwi, mokohinau stag beetle Maui dolphin tuatara
  3.  by introducing the tuataras to rodent free isle lands

  1. tuatara
  2. because of introduced predators like rats
  3. 25,967
  4. we could make a large container that has everything that the tuataras need and everyday add insects, beetles, spiders, birds eggs, frogs, small reptiles or mammals. because then they hunt for food so they do not lose that instinct to hunt so when they can get land for them they can still hunt and not go extinct

whale

8/9/17
lo identify ways in which we can reduce the factors affecting whale population

We could ban fishing in areas which have whales in them most of the year and along the line of migration. Have a patrol going around the area and stopping fishing boats with lines and rods so the whales do not get hurt or lose all their food. This could be a way to help the whales become non-endangered anymore and keep the boundary in place all year round even along the migration line to keep them from dying on their migrations.

it will be advertised and be put on maps and atlases and the consequence for fishing will be a $400 fine and if they continue 2 years in prison

is this really sustainable 7/9/17

lo understand what we are learning about in this unit. identify issues associated with the sustainability of whales.

whale are endangered because the humans are hunting them or killing them for sport like what whalers are doing they go around and kill whales for money one reason may be because whale blubber is used in perfume so they kill the whale get the blubber then throw the corpse away into the ocean to be eaten by sharks and other carnivorous animals there is also pollution, aquatic construction, over fishing, small and large scale boating and whaling whaling to get blubber skin and those things, boating because the whale gets cut then the sharks smell blood and kill them, aquatic construction because they can get trapped or killed by the construction, pollution because plastic can clog their throats and kill them, over fishing because then whales lose their food and finally oil spills because oil can clod the blowhole and mouth meaning they cannot breathe
