passion projects

we have now finished week two of passion projects and the people in maths crafts have chosen their project for then next few lessons i chose origami because it has the most diversity and is the most fun in my opinion, today I made 21 wolves 9 water lilies and an eternally opening fold, I will be taking them home and forming a place for them and have the wolves on the water lilies and the eternally opening fold on it's on special water Lilly floating off from the rest, just floating by in it's own space, it'll be kinda like a diorama.

Today we had our first full day of Passion Projects. we did Origami today (I tried flexagons but messed up) the Passion Project that I'm doing is called Maths crafts and it is where you use math to make things like string art and menger sponges, mobius strips and other things, my group made two small triakis octahedrons and a cube

Today I learnt that you can combine origami pieces together (the pieces we used to put them together were called Sonobe you use 12 to make a octohedron 6 to make a cube and 30 to make an icohedron)

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

in English we are learning to do a film study based on the movie, Hunt for the Wilderpeople,

if follows Ricky Baker a "bad egg" who has just been adopted by a new family which soon is interrupted with his foster mother,

Bella dies in an unfortunate accident which causes the child welfare association to have to take Ricky back and then to juvy because no one else will take him,

this prompts Ricky to run away to keep from going to juvy, and when his foster father Hector finds him he trips and hurts his leg,

they then go on the run to keep them from going to go to jail,

one task was to get images of Ricky Baker and add adjectives that describe his character here is the group that i am in's completed work so far

design process

in tech we learnt about our new project, the strategy game called mu torere

we talked about the design process and how even NASA used it during their designing of the first rocket to the moon

the goal of mu torere is to make it so that your opponent cannot move by blocking of their options by moving your sphere into a different place on the board

raising seeds

Aim: To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.

Method:

We worked in groups of 3-4 students
Potting mix was put into the cups.
The cups were planted with radish seeds.
Each cup had a different growing conditions:
Cup 1 - normal
Cup 2 - red cellophane
Cup 3 - over watered
Cup 4 - Under watered or green cellophane

The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured.

Findings:

Plant growing condition
Height after 10 days (mm)
Normal
35
Green cellophane
60
clear cellophane
30
Over water
0
The normal seedling was planted in normal potting mix and grew to a height of _35________mm.
The green cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix, covered in green cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of __60______mm. The clear cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix...and grew.......... to a height of ______30_____mm. The overwatered seddling was planted in normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of ___0___mm.

Conclusion: green cellophane grew the best plant

From the pictures and evidence we can conclude that:

The seedling height was:

1. 60 mm
2.35 mm
3.30 mm
4.0 mm

The best growing conditions were:

1.green celophane
2. normal
3.clear celophane
4. overwatered

therefore the seedling with _____green cellophane________ conditions grew to a height of _____60____mm.

stories from Norway

yesterday in English class the class had to select a letter, then a country starting with that letter, then a traditional story from the country we chose, I chose N, Norway, and the story Thumbikin

the story is about a woman's only son, who was no bigger than her thumb, and when her son called Thumbikin knew right from wrong his mother said he should look for a bride, so they got ready to go to a princess's castle and the mother placed her son in her bosom and started off, soon Thumbikin had hidden from his mother and only came out when his mother was weeping, he did that four times before they got to the castle, where the princess said that he was a good little chap and the wedding soon followed, after the wedding they went to eat, there was a big bowl of porridge which Thumbikin couldn't reach, so he climbed to the rim of the bowl, but spotted a bowl of melted butter to Dunk the porridge in so he climbed to the ridge of that bowl, then the princess tried to Dunk her porridge into the butter and hit Thumbikin into it, where he drowned.

traditional tales

In English we have been learning about traditional stories and tales like little red riding hood, Greek mythology, and the many, many fables written by Aesop.

In class I focused on Norse mythology which has characters such as: Thor Loki Odin and Heimdallr

The main thing I made was a recreation of Yggdrasil: the world tree using modelling clay and black paper.

After that I modelled a snake body and used a toothpick to carve out scales on the top and bottom of the serpent and had a line slit through the the sides of the serpent so I could hold it properly without damaging the scales

I learnt that many things we think of as fairy tales or any other types of story aren't actually what we think they are, for example, some of us think that the ugly duckling is a fairy tale but it isn't

assertiveness and conflict

Yay, I was there for something (* far away yay*) now, back to work

I learnt about the different types of reactions when people are in a conflict, they are aggressive, passive, and assertive.

When I get into arguments with my parents I can be  passive assertive ... either way I try to get my opinion across, why am I like this.

In the business and enterprise Kete, I will try to reduce conflict by keeping people who are annoyed at each other away from each other and letting them calm down slowly.

I will be able to keep calm by walking away, calming down, and then getting into a conversation with the one I was annoyed with after we both cool down.

mindfulness

I was away for mindfulness so this is me trying my best to do it annieway (ba-dum-ching)

I learnt that being mindful is much more than just listening to what people say, it's fully taking in the information and not acting mean when someone has a new idea.

During the business and enterprise Kete I can be mindful by listening to other students ideas and opinions on what we should be doing and being attentive to what others are feeling.

relsilience

I was away for resilience, so i am doing the best I can with what i have learnt

My favourite quotes related to resilience is: "Obstacles, of course, are developmentally necessary: they teach kids strategy patience critical thinking resilience  and resourcefulness" and "when something goes wrong in your life just yell. 'PLOT TWIST!' and move on"

Image result for quotes related to resilienceRelated image

During the business and enterprise Kete I will be able to use resilience to keep myself calm and always try to come to school happy no matter what happened the day before

transport in plants

Aim: to observe xylem tissue and prove that the transport water up the plant

equipment: one stick of celery with the leaves still attached, a retort stand, boss head and clamp, a petri dish, water, food colouring, a knife or scalpel

method:
1. make a cut across the base of the celery stalk to expose a new section of the stem
2. fill the petri dish with water and add a few drops of food colouring
3. place the celery stalk in the petri dish and gently clamp it in place using the retort stand, boss head and clamp
4. leave the stalk undisturbed for 24 hours
5. remove the stalk from the clamp and petri dish, cut the stem about 1/3 of the way up

interpersonal skills - problem solving

I learnt about problem solving and how to talk to people about problems

When i think i often react positively or negatively, however i can use thought challenges, for example

"I can't do anything right" (red/negative thought) " Am i exaggerating?" (yellow/ challenging thought) "No i can do things right, like maths and science" (green/positive thought)

During the business and enterprise kete i will be able to overcome challenges by using my problem solving skills

For example if someone wants to cook food and another wants to make slime, we could divide the stall into two sections one selling food one person made and the other selling the slime the other made.

we printed stuff..... IN 3-D!!!!!!!

lately in technology we have been doing the topic of 3-d printing and we used a program for building things, a program for converting images and a program to find things that other have made

Tinkercad, file converter and thingieverse respectively

on tinkercad we used basic shapes to make different shapes and sculpture like objects

on fie converter we could turn images we found online into a file that we can use to 3-d print so we could do things like jack skellington on a box or PORGS

and on thingieverse we could get files of things that people made and print them ourselves like the Tardis below

REFECTION AND RAINBOWS

Aim: to investigate how light behaves when it hits a plane (flat) mirror

Method: 1. collect a ray box, power supply, and single-slit ray slide from your teacher, and set them up to produce a single beam of light
2. place a plane mirror on the diagram of a protractor as seen below
3. vary the angle of incidence and record the angle of reflection in a results table

results: the angle of incidence and reflection are the same

aaaaaaart.....................................................................................................................................................

this is my finished piece of work compiled together,

for my reflection I will be focusing on my print

personally i found the drawing hard for this piece more so than the painting because the painting can be all simple but art nouveau has to be complex

for the cutting i cut my thumb once, don't ask me how i don't know.

annieways, about the cutting, it was fun to do, watch your creation form before your eyes into a beautiful image when inked

in space no-one can hear you scream!!

the reason that, in space you wouldn't be able to hear someone scream is because the particles of space are very very very very far apart so it's unable to make an impact on other particles so sound cannot travel

Static image commantary

Static Image Commentary

My static image portrays the idea that.....Martha can not bring anyone home because of her family’s secret and she has to hide the things she enjoys from her parents because of her christian community called the Righteous and its rules that ban things like sweets, pop music, and much more
.
I have shown this by. Using the quote of “I can’t bring friends to the house in case they find out about Abomination” to show that she can’t bring friends over and recreated her trashed room with postcards and point horror books to show that she has to hide the things she loves from her parents and the community

The visual elements I have used include crumpled postcards, point horror books, a bed and bed cover, a pillow, a scratchy rug and the quote on the ceiling
I have used the colour (s).....grey, red, pink, and brown .as they represent pieces of Martha’s sad and oppressive family life.
Grey represents dull and dirty ,Red symbolizes anger and war, pink symbolizes femininity tenderness and romance, and brown symbolizes friendliness.

The quotation (s) I have chosen are relevant because.......it was a recreation of Martha's bedroom which is part of her house where Abomination is so she can’t bring friends to the house in case they find out about Abomination, and she has her trashed room from when she showed her parents the stash under the floorboards

socialism

  1. China- Xi Jinping
  2. Russia- Vladimir Putin
  3. Sri lanka- Maithripala Sirisena
  4. Bangladesh- Abdul Hamid
  5. Algeria- Abdelaziz Bouteflika
  6. India- Ram Nath Kovind
  7. Cuba- Miguel Díaz-Canel
  8. Portugal- Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa
  9. Vietnam- Tran Dai Quang
  10. Tanzania-John Magufuli

I like socialism because it makes it so if you do a more difficult job you get paid more. I also like it because it allows the government to get money so they can improve the country. I dislike socialism because then there can be rich and poor people but that's a little bad thing. I like socialism because it allows people to have different incomes so a family can gain as much money as they need.

my static image

I have been making a "house" for my static image and on the top of the inside I will put an image saying I can’t bring anyone to the house in case they find out about Abomination.” and then have a shadowy figure down at the bottom to signify Abomination being in the basement and that Abomination is some sort of monster or something terrifying so they keep people away from it

what I was curious about

today I wondered how Adipose Industries turns other creatures into Apidose and i found out that the do it by having them ingest (eat) a "weight loss" pill and as a "gift" they also include a gold pendant that attracts fat, binds it together and galvanises it to form a body that is how it is naturally formed but in times of crisis the Apidose which are mainly made of fat, can absorb the entire human host including bone, hair, organs, muscle and other human tissue

Glycemic Index

today in home economics we learnt about carbs and the glycemic index

the glycemic index measures the increase in blood sugar levels after 2 hours of ingestion

high GI levels mean it has more simple carbs and low GI means it has more complex carbs

What  was it like preforming on the day

it was kinda stressful and kinda thrilling overall it was fun to preform because it was a sing-along

gloriavale critical thinking

link to the documentaries

in English we have been watching the Gloriavale documentaries and have read the book Abomination and have tied it together and classified their groups as a group of religious fanaticism and here is a question that I think I answered really well

2. What is another perspective?

Another perspective could be that there may be some people there that want to ask questions about their lifestyle and will only want to ask more when they go to the outside world to get marriage papers because there are so many different things outside of their community

here is a picture of Paul and Pearl the protagonists of Gloriavale a world apart
