What did the Treaty of Waitangi say?
Using the two versions of the Treaty - the Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi - and the main point(s) for each Article, discuss in pairs what the main differences are and then explain them in the following spaces. Then reflect on why you think these differences in perspectives on the Treaty would cause conflict between Māori and Pākehā.

Key Differences:
In the English version the British got control over everything, land people etc while in the Maori version the British only got control over land but the chiefs still had control over their tribes
Perspectives Causing Conflict:
When the tribes don’t listen to the British, the British might get annoyed and think they’ve been disobeyed or disrespected which could lead to conflict
Article 2
Key Differences:
In the English version the Maori could only sell land to the British government while in the Maori Maori could sell to other countries if the British refuse the price the Maori suggested

The British could get upset that the Maori sold their land to another country

Key Differences:
There are none

The different wording and the fact that they probably didn’t treat Maori the same as British
